The Comic
Hoy, Pare! (or Hey,Buddy! in English) is a comic strip about a Filipino kid named Jham and his family living in Calgary along with their neighbor Marin, who just moved in next door from the Philippines. The comic is a mix of Filipino and Canadian culture. Through this fusion we hope you'll learn a thing or two about each culture as well get a couple laughs. Two comics are published each month in a local newspaper; Mabuhay Calgary, which ships in the first week of each month except for January. When Mabuhay Calgary ceased publication in the summer of 2008 Hoy, Pare! ended as well. But now with the recent revival of Mabuhay Calgary, Jham and his buddies are back also. In addition to the comics published in Mabuhay Calgary, bonus comics are put online weekly throughout the month.
The Writer - Will Tigley
Will has been involved with the Calgary Filipino community as a dedicated member and President of the University of Calgary Filipino Students' Association. He has been a Senior Editor and contributor for Mabuhay Calgary, Calgary's Filipino newspaper since its launch in 2005. Contributing to the content of Hoy, Pare! Will hopes to provide entertainment and humour as well as inspire other Filipinos creators to produce Filipino inspired art and stories.
